Proverbs 1:1-3

1 The proverbs of Solomon son of David,
king of Israel:
2 for attaining wisdom and discipline;
for understanding words of insight;
3 for acquiring a disciplined and prudent life,
doing what is right and just and fair;

As believers, our goal should be to live a life that is pleasing to God, however, in many instances, we seek instead what is pleasing to ourselves pursuing what we think is best.

This proverb reminds us that our heart should be to have a prudent life thinking not just of the present time but looking onward toward our hope in the future, towards our salvation. Seeing that as our goal, we can live a disciplined life even today. For that to take place though, we need wisdom and understanding.
